I smell poem pie!

We Write Poems:
Fe-fi-fo-fum, I smell poem pie! Yousei Hime says, “I want to write a poem filled with scent.  A fellow writer and blogger and friend has told me that she loves anything that can incorporate scent.”  She suggests, “It is one of the most under-used senses in writing.”  Yousei wants to pass on this challenge to us as well.

Choose a concept, anything except sex (too easy and too common).  How about death, marriage, childhood, friendship, mother or mothering, same for fathers, loss, grief, joy, harmony, faith, beauty, regret, temptation, darkness, light, hate, sorrow, complication, or as you wish.  Now write a poem (of whatever form pleases you), Yousei says, that builds scent into your chosen concept.  Scent doesn’t of necessity have to be the focus, yet should definitely have an influence within the poem.  That’s the challenge for this week.

(Hope your poems smell good and ripe!)  And thanks Yousei for the prompt!  Read her full prompt idea and first poem here.

Come back next Wednesday when you see,It’s Post Your Poems Day!” and leave a link to the poem on your blog. If you don’t have a blog, then please, post your poem in the comment itself.    ***    You are invited to respond to the prompt given here, but if you have something else you’re just itching to share, please feel welcome in doing that. Our first desire here is to encourage you to write and learn and share.    ***    When leaving comments to other’s poems, please be appreciative and encouraging. We are not a poem “critique” site (unless someone specifically asks for that). Be kind with each other (and yourself!).    ***    Please consider including a link with your blog poem back to the prompt response here at We Write Poems so that others may see and join our community. More participants do make better soup!
