Happy Valentines!

Happy Valentines! Out of the fire and into the frying pan! We’ll let you write whatever valentines to your sweethearts as you wish. What we’re asking this week is that you write a valentine message to yourself! Time to appreciate yourself. Really, isn’t that only fair? Like we also know, when someone says something genuinely nice about yourself, and you just reply, “oh yea, thanks”, really meaning to deflect their regard. So perhaps let down that wall, all in good heart, in the interest of genuine kindly regard.

We know this request flies in the face of common regard. (Maybe that’s the challenge here.) This prompt is not about inflating egos, merely about saying who we really are in this world. Perhaps consider that what we are reticent to receive, we cannot fully then give away to others. So drop your doubts (just for a week?) and write a valentines poem to or for yourself.

The mode of your poem and expression is totally up to you. Maybe you’ll discover a way to acknowledge yourself (and we’d love to encourage that) that works for you. We thank everyone who contributes their writing here! We think your participation is wonderful.

This prompt is a collaborative result from some of us here at WWP. And frankly we’re a little anxious about what we might write ourselves, however the moment just seems to have appropriately arrived and dropped this into our laps.

Come back next Wednesday when you see,It’s Post Your Poems Day!” and leave a link to the poem on your blog. If you don’t have a blog, then please, post your poem in the comment itself.    ***    You are invited to respond to the prompt given here, but if you have something else you’re just itching to share, please feel welcome in doing that. Our first desire here is to encourage you to write and learn and share.    ***    When leaving comments to other’s poems, please be appreciative and encouraging. We are not a poem “critique” site (unless someone specifically asks for that). Be kind with each other (and yourself!).    ***    Please consider including a link with your blog poem back to the prompt response here at We Write Poems so that others may see and join our community. More participants do make better soup!

Such a sweet idea. I don’t think I have ever given myself a Valentine, and I liked it!
