Numbers Game

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

A day to give thanks, obviously. A day also to receive thanks! Maybe that second is some less obvious, however that’s what completes the gift given us… to receive. May we remember both. And pardon please, guess we can blame this turkey day for being some late in delivering this next prompt to you. So count your blessings; we hope they are many and abundant for you, as is your presence here. Thank you all. And now…

Pick a number, any number, and then write a poem about it. Is it your favorite, lucky, or age, child’s age, or significant date in your life? This can be a list poem, or any other kind of poem. Are certain numbers more significant to you and why, or why not? Does a certain age mean a certain thing to you? Is 50 old to you? What was old to you when you were 5, 25, 45? When you say that someone is a child, what age are you referring to? Do you have a significant memory of a certain birthday and what made it stand out? What numbers do you steer clear of and why? We deal with numbers every day, but this prompt is asking you to really think about them and the role and symbolism that numbers play within your existence. Perhaps you have a particular number within the Tarot deck. Write about it and why it is significant in a positive or negative manner. Do you play a numbers game of any kind? Describe it and its meaning to you. How do you feel about all the numbers in your life?

Come back next Wednesday when you see,It’s Post Your Poems Day!” and leave a link to the poem on your blog. If you don’t have a blog, then please, post your poem in the comment itself.    ***    You are invited to respond to the prompt given here, but if you have something else you’re just itching to share, please feel welcome in doing that. Our first desire here is to encourage you to write and learn and share.    ***    When leaving comments to other’s poems, please be appreciative and encouraging. We are not a poem “critique” site (unless someone specifically asks for that). Be kind with each other (and yourself!).    ***    Please consider including a link with your blog poem back to the prompt response here at We Write Poems so that others may see and join our community. More participants do make better soup!

    We sit by the fire
A win; the football players do desire
We get in the spirit to throw the pigskin
Waiting for our own feast to begin
With my sisters and parents, together again,
I finally feel like I fit in
