Thursday Prompt #15: What do you see in this image?

August 12, 2010

For this week’s prompt, spend some time looking at this photo, taken by Sarah Regnier (shown here with permission).

Mom's House by Sarah Regnier (

What do you see in this photo? Do you notice the plates on the wall, the curtains on the window, the roosters on the bottom shelf? Whatever draws you into this photo, use it as a starting point and write. Write a new piece each day based on this poem, or just write one piece for the week. How long you spend with the photo is up to you. Whichever route you choose, be sure to come back next Wednesday to share what you’ve written and to read the work of your peers. See you then!

This style of home accessory is so very difficult for me to embrace I fear inspiration may prove quite elusive — but perhaps something will come…

Good comment Rob, and I understand. Not exactly my personal taste either. However imagine coming as a guest, perhaps grandma’s house, or well… you get the idea. Thanks.

Your suggestion about grandma’s house finally sparked a brief tongue-in-cheek ditty — thanks Neil…

When did you guys sneak in my kitchen and take a picture?

This will be a challenge, My grandmother must have been a minimalist. Hope everyone’s well as can be.

Uma, I can’t seem to get past your spam blocker. It is good to treasure our memories of people who are important to us, and your poem is a happy read.
