What site sections/topics do we want?

April 14, 2010

What site sections or topics do we want to include?

Many have already spoken their desires, and we can also just look at the level of interest as demonstrated on RWP.  Prompts, certainly.  Articles as well.  Perhaps longer term mini-challenge prompts (although Carolee Sherwood is working on something in that direction for herself at another new possible site).  And groups?  It all depends what we want to do AND what we are willing to put some work into making happen.

So please use this post to again express what you would like to include and participate within.  Participation equals existence!

I like the idea of articles.

One idea just bubbled up to the surface — it might be called “The Poetry of Difference” or something to that affect. The idea would be centered on how certain aspects of us — i.e. ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion/faith, disability, etc. might inform one’s poetry, and maybe use contemporary and past poets as an example. The other thing I think would be good to focus on in this series is the ongoing question/debate about poetry being “universal” if it is informed by these kinds of differences. I’m rambling, I know, but that’s my basic kernel of an idea. I think this could either be a single-author column or rotating authors (if there are enough interested folks) and would maybe run monthly.

And if Carolee is working on mini-challenges, perhaps we can network with her too, when her site opens?
